How to Make a Photo Frame with an Electroluminescent Sheet

Making an attractive backlit photo frame is quick and easy with an EL sheet.
Any photo frame is suitable for this project, as long as it has enough matte overlap to hide the edge of the EL panel--about 1/4".

Process
This is an EL sheet (A4 or about letter size). It has dozens of terminals around the edge. Attach wires from an inverter to any two of these terminals and the EL sheet will instantly light up.

Use tape, alligator clips, screws or any other method to attach the wires --- just be sure they are attached securely.

Cut the sheet into any shape, even along curved lines, but don't cut off the two terminals with the wires.

Most ready-made photo frames can be used for backlighting, just be sure the inside dimension is larger than the front view area so the terminals are hidden from the front. Print your favorite image on a sheet of backlight film (which can be purchased from any office supply store), then place the film on the EL panel.

Turn on the inverter and your framed image will be backlit. The darker the surroundings, the more beautiful the effect.
